Lohri for Her Celebration, January 2014

The background of this story stemmed from Punjab, India with the unfortunate issues of aborting girls in society.  A prominent doctor by the name of Harshinder Kaur traveled to various villages addressing the issues of abortions which resulted to several health concerns and lack of honor in society.  The message of Dr. Harshinder Kaur has spread worldwide, and Nach Balliye has succeeded the awareness in North America.

Nach Balliye actively engages the South Asian community in celebrating the birth of girls and underlying the message to appreciate the stigma that daughters should be honored regardless of which community you belong to.  There are key events that Nach Balliye promotes in the Greater Toronto Area.

Lohri for Her

Lohri is the celebration of winter solstice with the elements of wind, water, earth, and fire.  This season recognizes the first year of a child, and Nach Balliyepays tributes to the new daughters in the community.  They hold an annual extravagant event which conveys the importance of a baby girl for a family.  Various community members have the opportunity to register in having their daughters celebrated while Nach Balliye puts together a fantastic festival that includes dancers, singers, panelists, and various other performers.

Pink Ladoos

Nach Balliye has a Pink Ladoos campaign which consists of gift baskets of ladoos that are sent to households who have a baby girl under the age of 1.  This is done by connecting with family members while the Nach Balliye team arrives to their door wearing the traditional Punjabi attire while sharing the happiness.  The Pink Ladoos campaign happens once a month and has been a proven success in sharing appreciation for community members.

Nach Balliye will continue to grow nationally while always being open to new members joining their organization.  For auditions into the group, you can contact info@nachballiye.com.
