Meet Keisha. Keisha is a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher and is currently a Bachelor of Education student at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa, Ontario, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology, Mathematics, and Chemistry. Keisha is a highly motivated young woman who plans on continuing her studies to Graduate and Doctorate levels. As an aspiring educator, she prides herself on being a dependable, organized, and self-motivating leader.
Not only does she have great communication skills, she has a quick-wit that makes interacting with her dynamic and hilarious. She is passionate about all areas of social justice, specifically intersectional feminism and anti-oppressive frameworks. This passion has led her to various exciting opportunities, which include her current work of co-organizing the UOIT Faculty of Education’s first-ever social justice conference entitled, “Unlearn, Relearn, Challenge – Building an Inclusivity and Equity Framework as a Teacher”. Keisha’s passion for social justice is intertwined with her passion for education, and the role that it plays in providing life-changing opportunities for marginalized and racialized communities.
Keisha loves a challenge and a good adventure, two of many qualities that make her so inspiring to others. Keisha also currently holds the title of Miss Popularity and 3rd Runner-Up for the 2017 Miss West Indian Canadian Pageant. Keisha also competed in the Miss World Canada Regional competition last month. Though she did not qualify for the National Competition, she still considers herself successful for pushing herself out of her comfort zone, and for connecting with so many inspirational and powerful women.
When she is not hard at work, Keisha can be found doing several things: teaching and practicing yoga, volunteering with several different organizations in her community, traveling to various parts of the world, or spending quality time with her family and friends.
